How to Play:

For a DEA number, prescribers are assigned either an A or B. The second letter matches the first letter of their last name. Unless the Doctor married after being assigned one and no longer goes by their maiden name. For this game, assume all doctors use their last name given.

Disclaimer:

For the following Activity, you are given the Doctor's Name along with two numbers in parenthesis. The first number is the first, third and fifth number added together in the correct DEA number listed below. The second is the sum of the second, fourth and sixth number. I am required to give you this information because otherwise a Valid DEA number listed below with the second letter matching the first letter of the doctor's last name can be misconstrued as the designated right answer. By giving you the two sums, it helps you select the correct answer.

How to determine a Valid DEA Number: (All DEA Numbers are presumed valid in this game however these are made up doctors and DEA numbers. This is only used for training purposes.)

Step 1: For a prescriber, A or B should be the first letter. The second letter should match the Doctor's last name.
Step 2: Take the sum of the first, third and fifth number. Write it down.
Step 3: Take the sum of the second, fourth and sixth number. Multiply the sum by 2. Write this number down.
Step 4: Add the sums from Step 2 and Step 3 together. The digit farthest to the right in this answer is the last number of the DEA.

Example:

Dr. John Goodman

Step 1: A or B, Second letter will be G. So we will check the validity of AG1546780
Step 2: 1 + 4 + 7 = 12
Step 3: 5 + 6 + 8 = 19 -> 19 x 2 = 38
Step 4: 12 + 38 = 50. The farthest digit to the right is 0. This DEA Example is VALID.
